Job Fairs Help Cara Participants
Connect with Employers
On
March 10, 2004, The Cara Program welcomed seven Chicago
area hotels to a hospitality job fair where Cara participants
were able to present themselves to hotel representatives.
Recruiters from the Hyatt Regency Chicago, Hyatt Regency
O’Hare, The Peninsula Hotel, Marriott O’Hare,
Hilton O’Hare, W Hotel City Center and W Hotel
Lakeshore attended the job fair and met with over 35
Cara participants. Many of these 35 Cara participants
will go on to interview with the hotels.
Hotel representatives included
two employed Cara participants. Tamara Knight (room
attendant) and Contance Boykin (front desk agent), employees
of the Marriott O’Hare, attended the job fair
with Marriott recruiters Zita Moreno (talent management
specialist) and Betty Garcia (supervisor housekeeping).
Tamara and Constance’s presence at the event encouraged
job fair attendees to pursue careers in the hospitality
sector. “This is a wonderful opportunity for employed
Cara participants who have been successful in pursuing
a hotel career to share their knowledge and perspective
with participants looking at the sector,” said
Evera Ivy (corporate account manager at The Cara Program
and organizer of the hospitality job fair). “This
is the third job fair we have held in the past nine
months, and each has proven successful in bringing companies
together with Cara participants.”
Other recent job fairs hosted by
The Cara Program include a financial services job fair
and also a healthcare jobs fair. Each job fair has been
very successful, with many job interviews being scheduled
as a result. Over fifteen Cara participants have been
placed with companies as a direct result of these jobs
fairs.
