Neighborhood Beautification

"I have been overwhelmingly impressed with the professional and thorough nature of Cleanslate.” Irene Sherr – Principal, Community Counsel, of the 53rd St. TIF Advisory Counsel

Property Preservation

Empty homes (caused by foreclosure) are prime targets for behavior that threatens the safety of our neighborhoods. Together with Mercy Housing Lakefront, we want to do something about it.

Intensive Job Training

We don't shield students from the realities they will face in the workplace; rather, we become the workplace right here at Cleanslate (and we have a bit of fun, too).

Unparalleled Training Yields Unparalleled Service

In addition to helping individuals secure transitional employment and valuable job skills so they may reenter the workforce, Cleanslate also serves as a catalyst for true community renewal in many Chicago neighborhoods.  Cleanslate contributes directly to each community's revitalization strategy by concentrating its neighborhood beautification efforts along high-traffic corridors, and by establishing itself as a neighborhood presence that helps to restore community pride.

As we have built this social enterprise, one key lesson has emerged.  Community development does not come from one service or one interaction, but from the cumulative effect of multiple services as they occur in harmony with that of community-based organizations, local businesses and neighborhood residents.  Because of this, Cleanslate has worked to cultivate relationships with economic development corporations, community-based service providers, local business leaders, aldermen, city planning departments, local law enforcement and other social enterprises seeking to serve the larger mission of community renewal.  It is our goal to grow Cleanslate as an integral part of the community fabric – as important to the neighborhood identity as the schools, parks, churches and storefronts.
